Lysistrata Post #2

Anyone else annoyed with the men in this play? Okay, I got the idea that this war has been going on for a really long time- therefore it must be really important to these men, right? Yeah. It was SO IMPORTANT that they even went a whole day without having sex! Wow! That's impressive. That just showed me that these men weren't even fighting for a real reason. I mean, how important could this war have been if they were willing to resolve it in a day? If it was that easy, why were they even fighting it in the first place? It just seemed to me like if these men didn't have something to fight over or to fight against, then they weren't really happy. That makes me think that this "peace" is going to be shortlived.

Yeah that was kind of odd. I think that was the whole point of the play though, to illustrate that they had no real reason for fighting and that it would be really easy to return to the Hellenistic Era of peace wherein they treated each other as brothers and equals.

Laura let's not down play the issue... they went a really long time without sex. All of like 20 hours. lol

Yep. These men clearly cared more about sex and money than their fight against each other, so I guess it's a good thing that the war ended. At least someone saw its pointlessness. I think Lysistrata just gave the men something new to fight for (their women), and they all decided that was more important than some war.

yea its craziness how they can't even last one day-I mean come on now...and your bring up a good point-if they were that fast to stop the war for not having sex after one day, then the war must have not held much importance to them.

I was thinking the same thing. I was also frustrated with the men as they could not last twenty-four hours without sex. Therefore, I also did not think the war held a significant importance to the men. The men definitely got more out sex than they did fighting the war. Sex was obviously more important to them.

Lol... I thought it was priceless how the men only lasted a day. When we were writing journals on how long we thought they would last, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I guessed more like a month or two, but a day?!? Unbelievable. But I guess that shows how important sex was to them. It was almost like a drug.
