I think one of my favorite characters in the book was Thea. When we first met Thea, she looked like the stereotypical "woman" of the time- weak, lovestruck, and innocent. So it was a big surprise to me when I looked back over the book and found how strong her character actually was. Not only did she have the strength to leave her husband who didn't love her, she also took control of her life and went after what she wanted. She also was equal to Lovborg in writing the manuscript, something that was unheard of during the time. Thea also never gave up on her dream of the manuscript being published, and even after Lovborg's death and finding out that the manuscript had been "lost" she had the courage to rewrite it and keep going.

I agree. Thea seems like the type of person that Hedda actually was. Someone who would be like in the shadows, afraid of scandal and too weak to get out of the social standards. How ironic, the person that seemed to have the least amount of power in the beginning of the play actually has a good amount of power and influence.

I did not think of Thea as being a very strong character...she seemed to be weak and brittle to me...but, my favorite character was Aunt Julie..I think Aunt Julie's character was very caring and understandable...she was the sanest compared to most of the other characters.

I dont know about Thea, but Aunt Julie was my favorite character too. She was the only character i thought that did not manipulate other people, was scandalous, sneaky, or had hidden motives. She was nice, kind, and caring because those qualities are just apart of who she is.
